The Gen3 Front Chassis Assembly offers an innovative solution for sim racing enthusiasts transitioning from flight simulation cockpits to light-duty racing setups. Designed by SimFab (formerly OpenWheeler), this assembly embodies key principles such as simplicity, affordability, agility, and seamless interchangeability between flight and racing systems.
This comprehensive front chassis includes all necessary components and mounting brackets to securely hold your racing wheel and pedals, hence its designation as the “front chassis.” The single post wheel holder is versatile, accommodating any racing wheel type—gear driven, belt driven, or direct drive—up to 12 NM of force feedback. Its streamlined design significantly minimizes downtime when switching between flight sim and racing setups.
The disconnect point focuses on the support tube for the race pedal plate, which connects to the seat frame using two quick-release knobs. This design allows users to exchange setups without dismounting their control devices, ensuring that both the racing wheel and pedals remain attached to their designated frameworks, already adjusted to personal preferences. The rudder pedal plate, whether it includes a main instrument panel or yoke post, remains intact as a complete assembly. It’s essential to leave slack in the setup wires and the USB hub for quick disconnections.
The Gen3 chassis allows for two pedal plate options: a standard angled plate and an optional flat plate. The angled plate features a +/-5 degree adjustment from a default angle of 27 degrees—ideal for pedals like Logitech and Fanatec. In contrast, the flat pedal plate maintains a fixed position, suitable for brands such as Moza, Thrustmaster, Simagic, as well as standalone pedals like brake, clutch, and accelerator on their factory bases. Feel free to consult with us regarding compatibility for less common pedals.
We offer complimentary modifications to provide additional holes in the base plates before fulfilling orders. For users utilizing heavier wheel bases, we recommend our DD conversion kit. If you’re upgrading from an existing Gen3 cockpit setup, the DD kit is the best option. For those transitioning from a flight sim base cockpit, the DD+ conversion kit is required and is available with either the angled or flat race pedal plate. The DD conversion kit includes a crossbar to secure your racing wheel.
Switching between racing and flight simulations is efficient with this kit, although heavier wheel bases may add weight to the overall cockpit frame, potentially prolonging the time required for disassembly and transitions.
